Our story

One origin, chosen for its character.

ORQUIDEA is a company specialising in international food trade. All of our vanilla comes from Nosy Komba, nicknamed “the island of lemurs”, a small volcanic island off Nosy Be in Madagascar.

With its tropical climate and fertile soil, Nosy Komba offers ideal conditions for vanilla of exceptional quality, prized by connoisseurs around the world.

Known for its authenticity and unspoilt nature, the island is a perfect place to grow vanilla — one of the region’s signature treasures, with know-how passed down from generation to generation.

The craft

A fragrance worth the wait.

  1. 01

    Hand-pollinated

The vanilla flower opens for a single day, so every blossom is pollinated by hand.

  2. 02

    Ripened on the vine

The pods take months to reach full maturity before they are harvested.

  3. 03

    Sun-dried

Prepared on the island, they slowly develop their colour and aroma.

  4. 04

    Vacuum-packed

Graded, then vacuum-sealed to keep them supple and fragrant all the way to your kitchen.

FAQ

Everything about our vanilla.

What is “Gourmet” vanilla?

It is the top grade of vanilla beans: supple, plump, glossy and full of seeds. Ours are unsplit, 16 to 20 cm long, with an average weight of 7 g.

How should I store vanilla beans?

Keep them in their vacuum pack or an airtight jar, away from light and at room temperature. Avoid the fridge, which dries them out.

How do I use a vanilla bean?

Split it lengthwise, scrape out the seeds with the tip of a knife and infuse the pod in a warm liquid (milk, cream, syrup). Once dried, the pod can flavour a jar of sugar.
